Q1. What are the differences between “Quick” and “Whole media” copy?

1 Quick Copy: (Select Function 7.2 Copy Area โ€“ System and Files) Reduces duplication durations by copying only areas containing data within the supported formats. When selecting, โ€œQuick Copyโ€, the duplicator performs an analysis of the data formats, capacities and locations etc. Once the analysis is completed, the duplication process is performed. If the source data is larger than the targets capacities, copy failure will occur.

2 Whole media copy: (Select Function 7.2 Copy Area โ€“ Whole Media.) Data analysis will be skipped, immediately followed by a bit-by-bit duplication of the entire source device. This mode achieves the most accurate data replication however, it is slower of the two duplication methods.

Q2. Why am I experiencing slow duplication process?

U-Reach flash duplicators support high copy speeds of up to 33MB/sec, so if your flash device copies slower than expected, please use “Function 6.2 Measure speed”, to check the reading and writing speeds of your devices. For example, if the measured writing speed is 10MB/sec, duplicating 1GB of data will take approximately 2 minutes.

Q3. What diagnostic tools are available for the flash duplicator?

There are 3 featured diagnostic tools:

1. Function 4: Media Check

These functions perform rigorous quality checks on the inserted flash devices. This diagnostic tool performs a bit-by-bit inspection to define bad sectors in flash devices, if any.

2. Function 6.2: Measure Speed

Measures flash device’s actual reading and writing speed within 10 seconds. This function supports device quality control by estimating duplication durations.

3. Function 6.3: Capacity Check

This function will determine the actual capacity to any inserted device. It is an effective utility to discover fake Flash devices that you purchased.

Q4.  How to ensure data duplication accuracy?

1. To determine data source consistencies and record the checksum value, select “Function 6.8 Calc. Checksum”.

2. To verify target data consistencies and utilize hardware enabled bit-by-bit comparison, select “Function 2 Compare”. This function ensures source data mirrors target data.

Q5.  When performing a BIOS update, a “No Update Fileโ€ message appears on the screen!

1. Please verify the BIOS file is unzipped.

2. Please ensure the BIOS file is stored in the root directory of device without any folders.

3. Save the BIOS file to another device and verify the device is of good quality.

4. Redownload and save the BIOS file again. Temporarily disable any software utilities that may contribute to interference during the download process.

5. Please verify that the BIOS file corresponds to the product model, requiring the update.

Q6. What causes immediate duplication failure after starting the copy process?

1. Please make sure that the source capacity is smaller and will not exceed that of the target device capacities.

2. When duplicating an NTFS formatted source device, the target device capacity must be at least 1MB greater than the source.

3. Please verify the source device utilizing a PC to determine errorless accessibilities.

4. If you are duplicating SD card devices, please verify if they are locked.

Q7. Why do some ports display a red indicator light once the copy has completed?

1. If the same socket repeatedly emits the red light, it may be severely worn out. To resolve this issue, please contact your local vendor for a socket replacement.

2. Are you using Flash adapters such as the MicroSD-to-SD adapter or the USB adapter to copy SD/MSD/CF etc.? The adapter quality may be subpar causing instability. Please use another adapter brand. If a mass copy production is required, we recommend our professional Flash duplicators. For example, if you need to copy large quantities of MicroSD cards, our Combo SD/microSD Flash duplicators are most suitable for your needs. Our professional Flash duplicator dramatically increases the performance and significantly reduces the risk of error during duplication.

3. If you encounter a need to run the copy process more than once, it may be possible that the quality of your flash is unstable, contributing to data loss.

4. If you encounter high failure rates, try reducing transmission speeds by selecting “Function 7.9 Working Mode”. This increases the copy quality and achieves successful copy results.

Q8. After inserting the flash device my flash device isnโ€™t recognized, no indicators are displayed and the functions are inaccessible.

1. Are you using Flash adapters such as the MicroSD-to-SD adapter or the USB adapter to copy SD/MSD/CF/etcโ€ฆ?

The adapter quality may be subpar, causing instability.

Please contact us so that we may offer you the best solution.

2.

Are you using an ultra slim or a nonstandard USB?

If you are using an ultra slim USB, purchasing a USB extension cable is suggested. The compact connections on the USB extension cable can resolve USB detection issues.

3.

Are you using a multiport adapter?

Our equipment does not support multiport adapters. An “all-in-one,โ€ card reader is considered a multiport adapter.

Q9.  Can I copy a 2GB device to a 1GB device?

Yes, so long as the data and formatting on the source drive are less than the capacity of the target drive(s).

Q10. Can I copy a 1GB device to a 2GB device?

Yes, however the file allocation table (FAT) of the source will be cloned to the target device causing your PC to recognize the 2GB device as a 1GB device. Therefore, we strongly encourage the equal capacity devices for all duplication tasks.

Q11. Can I copy encrypted data?

As there are many encryption methods, such as software or hardware encryptions, if you cannot tell which type of encryption is used, you may need actual testing to find out. The recommended testing steps are as follow:

Please note: Before starting the test, confirm that the capacity of the target drive is at least equal to the capacity of the source drive.

STEP 1. Perform the Data Area Copy on the Duplicator

There will be several situations to consider,

S1. A green light is shown, and the copied device can be used normally. (OK)

S2. A red light shown at the beginning of replication means the machine cannot detect the device. (FAIL)

S3. A green light is displayed, meaning the copy is finished, but the device cannot be used normally. (Go to STEP 2)

S4. A red light is displayed in the process of copying, or when the copy is nearly finished. (Go to STEP 2)

STEP 2. Perform the Whole Media Copy on the Duplicator

S1. It shows a green light, and the copied device can be used normally. (OK)

S2. It shows a green light, but the copied device cannot be used normally. (FAIL)

If the device cannot be normally employed after performing the Whole Media Copy, it means that the encryption method may be set to be available only for a specific device serial number or device model information. Hence, the device cannot be used even if it is copied.

Q12. What are the NIST standards and how do U-Reach machines comply with them?

NIST uses a few different names to dictate how a drive is erased. One such standard is called NIST clear. This refers to overwriting all user accessible areas using the drivesโ€™ built-in read and write commands. Another standard is called NIST purge. Drives often write internally to non-accessible areas which cannot be reached by read/write commands. This standard requires drive manufacturers to build in a command that will erase the user space as well as all non-accessible areas. U-Reach functions such as full erase and DoD erase will write data (0s, 1s, random, or user-defined) to all sectors in the drive and hence are compliant with NIST clear.
